ROLE: Principal UX Designer
LOCATION: Seattle
PicMonkey is a 75 person startup based in Seattle; the main product Is a spin off of a Google tool and functions as a cloud based photo editing and design platform.
In my role as Principal UX deisgner, I worked hard to establish a company design culture that appreciated qualitative conversations with users and took user research and testing seriously. My role was parts product design, UI engineering, interaction design, user research, creative direction, design culture integration, recruiting and networking. I established the user research team, and trained and led our researcher staff, as well as educated the company on design thinking and the value of iterative design.
The role was both strategic and tactical; on the macro side I spent time helping the team understand UX strategy in product design and on the micro side I took focused time in writing specs for UI features and tools and building prototypes for new interface paradigms.
I endeavored to bring a positive spirit of openness, collaboration and trust to the design practice and beyond, creating bridges between visual design, UX, development and marketing.
